2019년 4월 강원도 고성에서 시작해 속초까지 번진 산불, 2021년 2월 또다시 반복된 강원도 정선의 산불. 재해 상황 속에서는 재산 및 인명 피해, 생태계 파괴가 일어났다. 산에 있던, 가정집에 있던 동물들 또한 피해를 면하지 못했다. 그나마 보호자가 있는 동물들의 경우는 비교적 나은 상황이다. 하지만 동물들과 함께 임시 대피소에 들어갈 수 없어 보호자들은 대피를 포기하고 거리나 차 안에서 밤을 보낸다. 피해 상황 중 무엇을 우선시 할 것 인가에 대한 가치관의 상충이 빚어낸 묘한 상황이다.
진행한 작업에서는 전체적으로 명도 차이가 있는 2개의 화판을 함께 배치하여 멀리서 보았을 때 두 장면의 상황이 다름을 알 수 있다. 명도가 낮은 장면은 누구에게나 피해가 올 수 있는 상황이며, 명도가 높은 장면은 비교적 안정된 장면으로, 차별적으로 살아남을 수 있는 상황이다. 가까이서 살펴보면 두 장면 모두에서 살아남기 어려운 모습을 하고 있는 동물들이 있다.
The forest fire started in Goseong, Gangwon-do in April 2019 and spread to Sokcho, and the forest fire in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do, which was repeated again in February 2021. Property and human casualties and ecosystem destruction occurred in the disaster situation. Animals in the mountains and homes were also damaged. In the case of pets with families, it is a relatively better situation. However, families give up evacuation and spend the night in the streets or cars because they cannot enter temporary shelters with their pets. It is a strange situation caused by a conflict of values about what to prioritize among the damage situations.
Two canvases with differences in brightness were placed together. From a distance, it can be seen that the situations of the two scenes are different. Dark scenes can cause damage to anyone, and bright scenes are relatively stable scenes, which can survive discriminately. However, if you look closely, there are animals that look difficult to survive in both scenes.
