<존재에 대한 질문> 작가노트
인간은 생명체에 경중輕重을 부여하고, 중한 생명체에 대해서만 동물권을 논한다. 인간이 중요치 않다고 분류한 생명체들의 가치를 아름답고 쓸쓸하게 표현했다. 이번 전시에서는 어떤 존재가 경하고 중한지, 과연 얼룩매가오리를 인간이 수족관 안에 가두어 둘 권리가 있는지에 대해 질문을 던진다.
<Questions about existence> Artist Statement
Humans classify 'important' and 'not important' to animals, and discuss animal rights only for important animals. I drew the value of animals that humans classified as insignificant in a beautiful and lonely mood. In this exhibition, it is an opportunity to think about what kind of existence is important and not important. I ask the question of whether humans have the right to trap eagle rays in the aquarium.
Swimming
수영을 하는 인간과 얼룩매가오리가 만났다. 동등한 존재로써 조우했을 때의 경이로운 모습을 보여준다.
Humans and an eagle ray swimming met. It shows a phenomenal appearance when meeting as an equal being.
Aquarium
작품은 3:1의 비율로, 아시아에서 가장 큰 수조를 가지고 있다는 한 수족관의 수조의 비율을 그대로 가져왔다. 그 속에 정형 행동을 보이는 얼룩매가오리가 있다. 작은 수조에 갇혀 개체수가 무한대로 늘어날 수도, 모두 폐사할 수도 있는 위험한 상황을 연출했다.
The work brought about 3:1, the ratio of an aquarium tank, which has the largest tank in Asia. There is eagle rays in it that shows formal behavior. I directed a dangerous situation that can be trapped in a small tank, and the population can increase indefinitely, or all can die.
Ocean
바닷속의 그들은 전투기처럼 빠르게 수영하기도, 삼삼오오 모여서 직선 유영을 하기도 한다. 수족관 속의 그들과는 완전히 다른 모습이다.
In the sea, they swim fast like jets, or gather in twos and threes and swim in a straight line. It looks completely different from them in the aquarium.
